12:00 PM – Holy Week Luncheon @ Mt. View Nazarene
Scripture to Read:
John 15 and 16
Interact with Scripture:
1.) What word or phrase stood out to you the most?
2.) Spend some time meditating on that word or phrase by
praying it over and over to yourself.
3.) What is Jesus teaching you through that word or phrase?
Our Father, who is in heaven, Holy is your name.
Your kingdom come,
Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For yours is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory,
Forever and ever.
Opportunity for Prayer and Fasting:
I would like to encourage those of you who feel led to, to experience the spiritual disciple of fasting this week. The idea behind fasting is that we give something up in order to focus more of our attention on God.
I would like to invite those of you who want to and are able to join me this week in fasting from food. (If you are unable to fast from food for medical reasons feel free to fast from something else.) I will be trying to do a three day fast but want to offer the opportunity for you to experience a two day fast, or one day fast as well.
3 Day Fast – Last meal is Monday night, End fast at the Meeting for Communion and Worship.
2 Day Fast – Last meal is Tuesday night, End fast at the Meeting for Communion and Worship.
1 Day Fast – Last meal is Wednesday night, End fast at the Meeting for Communion and Worship.
There is a resource on the web at http://www.cru.org/training-and-growth/devotional-life/7-steps-to-fasting/index.htm that has a lot of helpful information on fasting. We have some printouts of this resource available.
If you decide to participate in fasting this week please let Luke know so he and others can offer encouragement and support. If you have any questions about fasting please talk to Luke.
