for Sunday, October 28

Lately, I have been trying to get back in the habit of taking prayer drives around Homedale, and so I have changed my work routine to make sure I start my week off by driving and praying.  Yesterday as I was driving and praying I was prompted to sing “Lord, Listen to Your Children Praying” and I want to share the words to the chorus of that song with you.

Lord, listen to your children praying

Lord send your spirit to this place

Lord, listen to your children praying

Send us love, Send us power, Send us grace

I want to encourage all of us to be in the habit of praying for our community, our church, our families, and ourselves.  As you drive through or around town pray that God would send the Holy Spirit to this place and that people would respond to His ministry in their lives.  Pray that we as a church would take care of each other and those around us.  Pray for our families to follow Christ in an obedient way, and pray that we ourselves would use our gifts and talents for the Kingdom of God.

This week’s message is on John 6:1-15, the story of Jesus feeding five thousand men and more than likely an even greater number of women and children.  The boy in the story offered Jesus five small barley loaves and two small fish, and Jesus multiplied this small gift into enough food to feed all of the people with some left over.  How, I wonder, does God want to multiply our gifts and talents for His purposes and for His Kingdom?
